One of the greatest names in the world of singing “Lata Mangeshkar,” passed away yesterday (Sunday, the 06th of Feb, 2022) and it seems with her tragic demise that an era of singing has ended as she has a very vast experience in this field. Her voice is admired not only in India but it crossed many international boundaries. All the singers are in grief with this big loss for India and the world.
In early January, she was admitted to a city hospital in Mumbai, when she tested positive for Covid-19 and was also recognized with pneumonia. Lata was admitted to one of the popular hospitals of Mumbai but her health was recovering very slowly. On January 28, When she showed a few signs of improvement in her health, she was taken off the ventilator.
On February 5, her condition deteriorated, then again she was shifted on ventilator support. Since her condition was critical, the singer was placed under procedures to make some improvement but ultimately on Sunday morning, the 6th February 2022, the veteran singer left the world with her sweet voice with an unfortunate demise when the doctor declared her dead. She passed away at the age of 92.
Madhur Bhandarkar, sharing his feelings to the news agency, “It’s a personal loss for me that Lata Mangeshkar is no longer with us. I was in touch with her for several years. Every 15 days I used to speak with her on the phone. On January 1 this year, I wished her a Happy New Year. I feel very sad.”
There are lots of stars who came to the house of Lata Mangeshkar to attend her last rites. The popular names include Actor Anupam Kher, Ajay-Atul, Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, Shraddha Kapoor, singer Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure, and Amitabh Bachchan with his daughter, and a few more.
Lata Mangeshkar, India’s Legendary singer, started her journey as an actor in the film industry before she ruled Indian music. She started work as an actress at the age of five with her father on Marathi musical plays. She has five younger siblings, Meena Khandikar, Asha Bhosla, Usha Mangeshkar, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
“I started as an actress. But I never used to like acting,” she said in one of the popular interviews.
Lata Mangeshkar started her singing career when she was just 13, around 1942, she recorded her first song “Naachu Ya Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari ”. In her career, she recorded over 30,000 songs in different languages, a few names as ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’, ‘Raam Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Ek Radha Ek Meera’, and ‘Didi Tera Devar Deewana’. She is lovingly referred to as the ‘Nightingale of India’, ‘The Queen Of Melody’.
In 1969 the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was honored with the third-highest civilian award ‘Padma Bhushan’, in 1999, and after that, she was awarded the second-highest award The Padma Vibhusan and in 2001, she was awarded the highest civilian award, ‘Bharat Ratna’. And in 2009, she was also honored with France’s highest civilian award, ‘Officier de la Légion d’Honneur’(Officer of the Legion of Honor).
