Oscars 2022: Video goes VIRAL, Will Smith slaps Chris Rock

American actor Will Smith beat comedian Chris Rock after being offended at the latter’s joke staged at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith during the 94th Academy Awards.

After hitting Rock, Smith stepped back and used profanities, saying: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*** mouth”.

As per Variety, Rock occurred on set to give the Oscar for documentary feature, and he then made a joke about Jada-Pinkett Smith (Will Smith’s wife) being in ‘G.I. Jane’ because of her shaved bald head. Originally, Smith was giggling but Jada looked concerned by the joke. Smith then took to the stage to punch Rock.

Many in the ceremony glimpsed shocked by the conflict. Diddy, the next award presenter handled the situation by saying: “Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family. Right now we’re moving on with love. Everybody make some nose.”

Last year, Jada Pinkett Smith had declared that she shaved her head after working with alopecia. Speaking about Will Smith, the actor was nominated in the Best Actor category for ‘King Richard’ and won the title. While giving his acceptance speech he apologized for his behavior and said, “I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim and Trevor and Zack and Saniyya and Demi and Aunjanue and the entire cast and crew of ‘King Richard,’ Venus and Serena, the entire Williams family. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams.”

The 94th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and the ceremony was hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes. The nominations for the Oscars were revealed on February 8 this year by actors Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan.

After a few hours of the incident, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has issued a statement that reads, “The Academy does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”
